About me
Justin Heenan is an accomplished educator, author, and psychotherapist with a passion for promoting inclusion and leveraging innovative technologies in education. He has published two children's books focused on inclusion and has been recognized for his contributions to education with multiple awards, including the 2021 Educator of the Year Award from Special Olympics Ontario and the 2023 Bluma Appel Scholarship for Excellence in Education.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Educational Studies (Cognition and Learning) at Brock University, Justin balances his academic pursuits with roles as a sessional faculty member at Trent University, where he supports future educators, and as an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology. He also teaches an Educational Technology course at Brock University. His research focuses on technology-enhanced mentorship practices, especially within Education and Community Partnership Programs.
As a psychotherapist, Justin runs his own private practice, Justin Heenan Counselling, specializing in anxiety, eating disorders, and career counseling, where he also provides clinical supervision to aspiring therapists. His experience extends to mentorship roles at Yorkville University, where he guides MA and M.Ed. students in their professional development.
In addition to his professional roles, Justin is a dedicated volunteer, particularly with Special Olympics Ontario, where he has served in various coaching and leadership capacities. He also contributes to the Durham Down Syndrome Association, leading outreach efforts and supporting community resources.
With a career rooted in both education and mental health, Justin Heenan continues to influence and inspire through his teaching, mentorship, counseling, and community involvement.
